Google time-lapse shows Clarksville’s growth

May 9, 2013

As the City Council begins to dig into Mayor Kim McMillan’s budget proposal much of the discussion will center around grappling with Clarksville’s rapid growth over the last two decades.  Development rears its head directly, like with the plan for a new fire station near Exit 1 or what to do about the police department’s North Precinct – both necessary infrastructure for areas that have seen growth, and further down in the weeds, like how to make sure Clarksville’s sewer system can handle more waste from more people.

So it only makes sense to try and understand Clarksville’s growth while trying to get your head around this year’s budget.  Luckily for us, the almighty Google has put together time-lapses of satellite images from 1984 to 2012.  Check out Clarksville’s and see the growth around Fort Campbell Boulevard and Exit 1: Google Earth Engine.

I’ve clipped two images of the lapse and put them after the jump, but it’s really worth looking at Google’s animation for Clarksville, and even perusing other world locations, it’s a neat new product.
